INFOLABUANBAJO.ID — A tourist from Spain suffered serious injuries after falling into the Mainhole Sidewalk or uncovered culvert hole on Gorontalo Street, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, NTT, Sunday (9/6/2024) at around 21:00: 00 WITA evening.
The incident occurred near the Puri Sari hotel, when the foreign tourist was returning to the Sudamala Resort Labuan Bajo Hotel.
According to the media crew’s observations at the location, there were two Mainhole Sidewalks or culvert holes that were still gaping, especially since the street lights were not functioning in that place.
Responding to this incident, the Chairman of the United West Manggarai Youth, Obe Hormat, said that there had been two (2) incidents of foreign tourists falling at this place.
According to him, this incident was very embarrassing because the tourist was angry and upset about the disaster he experienced.
“This has happened twice (2) times, in the same place, one Mainhole Sidewalk which had no cover. And tonight it happened again that one of the foreign tourists fell at that place. And this is very embarrassing, especially since this guest was angry and very upset about what happened to him”, said Obe Hormat.
As Chairman of PMBB, Obe Hormat asked the regional government of West Manggarai district to look into this condition. He also asked the government to pay attention to street lights in that place.
“And I, as chairman of the PMBB mass organization, asked the West Manggarai district government to look into this condition. Please pay attention to the street lights there because the situation in that place is very dark. Don’t let anyone become a victim again, or die because the hole is very deep,” he said.
“And once again I say this incident is very embarrassing because this is a super priority road, he said, but in reality small things like this are not checked. So who is responsible if this guest dies, especially if this guest is foreign? And this problem is serious, and this is the second time this happens, if the country finds out that he fell into a hole, we would be very embarrassed”, he added.
Obe Hormat also asked the local government of West Manggarai district and also the police to control the scrap metal collectors in Labuan Bajo, because the Mainhole Sidewalk cover had been lost and taken by irresponsible people.
“I also ask the regional government and the police to regulate the scrap metal collectors or collectors in Labuan Bajo, because the Mainhole cover is missing”, he said.
