INFOLABUANBAJO.ID – A heartbreaking incident occurred within a week that happened to two foreign tourists from Spain and Denmark in Labuan Bajo. Their intention to have fun and enjoy a holiday in a super premium tourism city failed because they both had an accident while going shopping.
The tourists staying at the Sudamala Resort fell into the sidewalk on Gorontalo Street. One of the tourists from Spain suffered serious injuries to his left leg and had to receive two stitches at Siloam Labuan Bajo Hospital.
The incident occurred near the Puri Sari hotel, when the foreign tourist was returning to the Sudamala Resort Hotel.
The manager of Sudamala Resort Komodo, Mayo, in his statement to Info Labuan Bajo, explained that these incidents occurred consecutively, namely on Sunday (02/06/2024) and Sunday (9/06/2024) evening.
“This is our second guest (having an accident), so last week our guest fell, the same thing happened to tourists from Denmark. The incident occurred on June 2 2024, the same person was going to Maharani to buy supplies for the trip. “It’s a shame that when he fell alone, he went back alone (to the hotel) our team knew when he was already here,” said Mayo.
Meanwhile, tourists from Spain said Mayo wanted to shop at Maharani to buy equipment for an island trip for three days in Labuan Bajo.
Mayo said this incident was caused by there being no street lights, so the tourists admitted that they were very disappointed and regretful.
“It’s a shame that the lights are dark. They came from Spain and didn’t know about the Labuan Bajo area, they were quite surprised because they thought this area was quite safe, but unfortunately it was beyond their expectations, they were very disappointed.
“Because they were so disappointed, they became too lazy to talk,” said Mayo.
According to him, the tourists felt that a lot of their vacation time was wasted because of this accident.
“So he felt why it had to happen to me, my time was wasted. They went on an island trip for three days, then after the island trip they returned to Spain. This morning they want to go on a trip.
“Just imagine them limping on their island trip,” he said. The injury suffered by the tourist from Spain was quite serious because he was hit by a puncture from the concrete iron on the sidewalk. The tourist had to be treated for three hours in the emergency room at Siloam Hospital and given an injection to prevent him from getting infected with tetanus which is caused by rusty iron.
“Do you know why you have to get a tetanus injection, because there was rusty iron coming out of the hole, so the rusty iron hit his leg, that’s what he was worried about.
“That’s why they have to get tetanus injections,” explained Mayo. Can you imagine that starting today, waking up in the morning can be relaxed and even if they have tetanus, they will be in a state of woe.
“They are still worried and hopefully nothing will happen when they return to Spain,” he added.
Mayo said, if you want to say disappointed, the tourist was extremely disappointed “only he was a bit slow. “Because I’m already lazy, because I’m too lazy, why is this premium, like that,” he said.
Mayo hopes that the West Manggarai egional government will immediately take this incident more seriously.
“I hope more attention is given to this, even though it is not in Sudamala, it is part of the government’s side,” hoped Mayo.
According to him, the current government should not think short, “it must think long.
“Because if this is not taken into action, it will directly affect the economic level of the local community,” said Mayo.
Mayo emphasized that if tourists are disappointed, “they will not come here again.”
“How do we get income in the future. This is one contribution. So I hope in high light it’s also small things. “We take action, right, we can automatically do big things,” he concluded.
West Manggarai Regent’s response
Responding to the incident that befell two foreign tourists from Spain and Denmark in Labuan Bajo, the Regent of West Manggarai, Edistasius Endi, admitted that he was concerned.
“I assure you that we will follow up and correct any shortcomings. Including existing assets, we must be able to look after and maintain them so that…”In the future, incidents like this will not happen again,” said Edi Endi to Info Labuan Bajo, Monday (10/06/2024) afternoon.
His party will also coordinate with a number of related agencies to overcome this problem.
“Namely the department goes to Cipta Karya because it is related to lighting street lights. Then secondly, the Highways Department because this is on the sidewalk. Then the third is the Environmental Service because they are always cleaning, they know what conditions are like in the field.
“It’s very important to have cross-sector coordination,” said Edi Endi.
“Don’t know that because they know it’s not their responsibility, they know and don’t communicate with parties such as the Cipta Karya and Bina Marga services,” he added.
Regent Edi hopes that this incident will not happen again in the future.
“Hopefully in the future it won’t happen again,” he concluded.
